People are up in arms about the "Ghetto Handbook: Wucha dun did now?" that has caused an officer to be suspended over the 8-paged booklet reportedly aimed at teaching Ebonics.
That "Ghetto Handbook" subtitle of "Wucha dun did now?" sounds a whole lot more Southern White male (think Mater from Cars) than black folks in the ghetto. Though we all learned our language skills together down South...
Excerpts from the Ghetto Handbook included these definitions:
Foty: a 40-ounce bottle of beer
Aks: to ask a question
Hoodrat: scummy girl
Check. Check. And check. I've heard people say all three of these "Ghetto Handbook" terms.
Should the officer have been suspended over the Ghetto Handbook?
Nearly every day I use the more popular online "Ghetto Handbook" called The Urban Dictionary to clear up terms I'm unaware of. Does that make that site racist?
I just used the online "Ghetto Handbook" of sorts to finally find out what the lyric "so it's back to your crib with the fifty-four elevens on" means.
Back seven years ago, I asked a black guy what fifty-four elevens meant.
"I don't know," he answered, joking, "we need a ghetto dictionary."
So...does anyone have the full eight pages of the Ghetto Handbook to download?
